The USA Today reports that the Obama administration is asking U.S. schools to speed up digital textbook adoption. FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski and Education Secretary Arne Duncan will recommend today that states modify the textbook adoption process, allowing K-12 schools to use funds once reserved for heavy paper books on tablets such as iPads and Kindles.
Ok, we have been talking about creative use of textbook funds for a while and now we are seeing it in action. The goal is a e-textbook in every student’s hand by 2017. Pretty exciting or disastrous if schools by into tablets without a well thought out plan.
